On the day of the race I was feeling slightly nervous but quietly confident after all the work I had put in.  My coach Chris Hallam was great and really kept me calm and motivated.  The adrenalin set in once I was in my racing chair and out on the road warming up, followed by the nerves when I joined the start line.  I started down the opposite end of the line to Mickey Bushell who was my main competition.  When the start gun went Mickey went off quiet slow probably expecting me to take off.  I didn’t want to do this because he would easily have got into my draft then making it easier on him.  It turned into a tactical race with both me and Mickey still together until around the 2 mile mark.  I was pushing well, over 20mph at times.  Just after I'd made the break from Mickey we hit a really hard uphill and I knew I was going to have to work hard to maintain the lead as Mickey is stronger on an uphill than I am.  It paid off though and I won the race in 13:10 which was 1:08 ahead of Mickey.  It was a great result and I could not have been happier.
